IAAF Track and Field Championship Berlin 2009™ – Marathon in virtual city model

This video shows the marathon route through the virtual inner city of Berlin. The route includes numerous landmarks such as Potsdamer Platz, Siegessäule, Schloss Bellevue, Reichstag, Museumsinsel and the well-known Berliner boulevard “Unter den Linden”. The 10 kilometer race starts and ends at Brandenburger Tor – participants in the race must complete the entire course four times.

The integration of the marathon course is intended for the participants as well as sport fans to familiarize themselves better with the event. In general, such events that are related to or otherwise enrich the city’s cultural heritage and significance in European history are be integrated into the Berlin 3D city model on a continual basis for the public-at-large and support city promotional activities.
