Solar Map: 2D Web-GIS for Germany’s Capital

Customer: Berlin Partner GmbH

The Berlin Business Location Center wanted to expand the content of the existing 3D city model by including information regarding renewable energy, namely solar. A pilot project was created to investigate how best to provide information to the general public as well as to encourage investment amongst private citizens and industry in solar panel installations.

3D City Model of Berlin

Customer: Berlin Partner GmbH, Autodesk®

All buildings in Berlin (500,000) have been modelled from airborne LiDAR-Data with BuildingReconstruction software from virtualcitySYSTEMS and have then been integrated in the existing Berlin 3D city model. VirtualcitySYSTEMS textured 230,000 buildings with realistic facades in the western Berlin districts using oblique imagery.

LoD1 and LoD2 from airborne LiDAR for the Frankfurt Survey Department

In just eight weeks, virtualcitySYSTEMS created over 200,000 buildings in LoD1 and LoD2 from airborne LiDAR for the Frankfurt Survey Department. The total area of the project encompassed 250km² including Frankfurt International Airport. Object attributes from the municipal ground cadastre were saved to the building geometry and finally saved in CityGML 0.4.0 and 1.0. A streaming data set was then created to enable more efficient real-time visualization of the entire city.

3D visualisation of a new digestion tower in Kassel, Germany

Build an Autodesk® LandXplorer™ Xpress Project containing a 3D visualisation of a new digestion tower in Kassel, Germany. The proposed new structure was integrated in context of the existing residential and industrial buildings.

Orthophotography, a digital ground model comprising approximately 3 km² served as main GIS data inputs.

The area closest to the industrial plant (1 - 2 km²) was modelled with LoD1 buildings. The digital surface model and oblique aerial images were used to create LoD2 buildings with realistic roof forms.

Fürstenfeldbruck, Germany LoD1 and LoD2

Within just a few days, virtualcitySYSTEMS has extracted 11,000 houses in LoD1 and LoD2 for the town of Fürstenfeldbruck, located 25 kilometers outside of Munich, Germany. The project was completed on behalf of partner firm Widemann Systems GmbH.

Despite missing or incomplete data, most of the town was successfully re-created in 3D. The 3D model will help address construction issues for the town of Fürstenfeldbruck.

LiDAR Project for Esslingen, Germany

virtualcitySYSTEMS has completed a project for the town of Esslingen which included 3D buildings in LoD1 and LoD2 extracted from airborne LiDAR data. In total 13,000 buildings were created.
